Minecraft Mod Loader

Certain mods for minecraft work only with previous ModLoaders. v4 mods will not work with v5 ModLoader and so forth. This will only work until the next update which will break the mod.
If you have modded before and not used ModLoader, it is in your best interest to start with a fresh minecraft.jar.
Okay if you are going to mod you must agree with this disclaimer.
Disclaimer: DO NOT SKIP THIS! Modding alters minecraft.jar and may cause SMP not to work with this mod installed. Mods can add new content and it is a bad idea to load old worlds that you played in before you installed this mod. For Windows users

1. Open up %appdata%, or go to start, run then type in %appdata%
2. Go to .minecraft/bin
3. Open minecraft.jar with winRAR or 7Zip
4. Put necessary files into the jar

2. Type in the following, line by line:

jar xf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar
3. Outside of terminal, copy all the files and folders into the mctmp directory.
4. Back inside terminal, type in the following:
jar uf ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/bin/minecraft.jar ./
cd ..
rm -rf mctmp
5. Run and Enjoy!

You need to delete meta-inf, it’s what tells minecraft if its been messed with, so if you have a mod and you have the meta-inf folder, you get black screens. The files should go in minecraft.jar which, in win7 you can find in the Roaming appdata folder(go to the search bar and type in “%appdata% and it should come up as “Roaming”; the first folder should be “.minecraft” open it; open “bin”; open minecraft.jar with winrar or 7zip).

  4. BananaPhone says:

For everyone out there who can’t figure out how to install mods, just use a program that installs mods for you. It’s so much easier. Once you have that you’ll be facepalming yourself for hours. (jk)

  13. Steve Bolton says:

Everyone repeats these stupid instructions with the critical step
“4. Put the necessary files into the jar” which is utterly devoid of information.
What files, where in the jar.
    Does it mean?
Copy the modloader zip into the root of the jar file.
Extract all files from the modloader folder into the root of the jar
