Mo’ Creatures Horse Breeding Guide

Mo’ Creatures is a very big, complicated mod. It adds tons of new animals into the game, most of which contain features a lot of people don’t understand. We already gave you a quick guide via our Ultimate Mo’ Creatures Guide, but we’re taking it a step further by explaining one of the probably most complicated systems of the mod – horse breeding. Since the next Minecraft update will feature horses that are based on this mod, this is a hot topic right now. So, if you want to learn how to breed your perfect horse to impress your friends with, read on.

Ok, so let’s take it from the beginning. The basic horse types spawn in the wild. This is how you get your start. You tame a horse by feeding it an apple and then naming, saddling and riding it. You can grow a horse from baby to full-grown by feeding it bread or wheat. To breed, follow these 4 simple rules, courtesy of the DrZhark wiki:

1. The Horses cannot be more than 4 blocks away from each other.

2. There cannot be another Horse within 8 blocks of your breeding Horses.

3. You must feed both Horses Pumpkins or Mushroom Soup to begin the breeding process (love hearts will appear around your Horses, similar to how Vanilla Mobs breed).

4. You must leave them for around half a Minecraft day.

These basic horses are simple and don’t really differ much among each other except for their textures. There are 4 tiers of normal horses. If you just want to breed a regular horse with a specific texture, reference this chart, but keep in mind breeding is very random and while you will most likely get the desired breed, it might not. Just keep trying and you’ll get it in a few tries.

If you however are not satisfied with the puny normal horse breeds you need to breed a Zorse to be able to breed a more powerful breed. That is, unless you want a skeletal horse in which case just feed an essence of undead to a normal horse and wait for it to decay from zombie to skeleton state.

Now, back to Zorses. Zorses are the basis of  the very powerful special horses. As you might imagine, a Zorse is a mix between a horse and a zebra. Sound easy? It’s not. You see, a zebra is very rare (extremely so in my experience) and you can only tame it from a tier 4 horseback. This will take a while, but once you have a tamed zebra you can breed it with a horse to create the Zorse.

From this point on, we branch out a little. There are lots of special horses, all of which are faster than regular ones. While there is a clear winner considering stats, sometimes it’s not all about the stats and looks matter too. The first special horse and my personal favorite is Nightmare. This is a dark fire horse. If you whip it, it leaves a trail of fire. It looks very, very cool. You get it by feeding a Zorse an essence of fire. Nightmares spawn naturally in the Nether, but are hostile and cannot be tamed there. Feeding a Nightmare an essence of light will get you an Unicorn which , needless to say, has a horn, sparkles, and goes really fast.

Next up is the Bathorse. This one is also a hostile mob, it spawns during night and in caves. It can fly and is completely dark. Hostile ones cannot be tamed, but feeding an essence of darkness to a Zorse will get a friendly one for you. Feeding it an essence of light above cloud level (height y150) will create a Pegasus, an even faster flying white horse with the ability to carry an inventory (like Donkeys). Feeding a Pegasus an essence of darkness above cloud level will result in a Black Pegasus which is immune to fire.

Now for the rarest of all horses, a magnificent triumph of breeding glory – the Fairy Horse! This one is created when a Pegasus and a Unicorn mate, so there’s a long way to go on the breeding path to get to it. The unicorn is even consumed during the breeding (no, I don’t understand why either). It cannot be grown with food, so you must wait for it to grow up. It is the fastest runner and flier in the mod. You can even color it with all kinds of dye to make it  even more special.

If you’re not satisfied with living horses, you might be interested in the ghost horse types. While these fellows cannot really be bred they are closely tied to breeding. To get a Ghost Horse you need to kill a special horse, and there is a chance (1/10 according to the DrZhark wiki) that a ghost horse will be created. If that special horse was a Pegasus, you will get a Ghost Pegasus which can also fly. Ghost horse types float above ground and are as fast as the horse they came from.

And… that’s about it! If you don’t already have Mo’ Creatures and want to get it, you can download it here:

  2. Brielle says:

The hearts dont pop up for me

    • Brianna says:

You can’t see the hearts, possibly because of your particles setting. Turning them up should fix the problem. Unless you see them when breeding other horses. They don’t always pop up for me either. Depending on what version you are using, The Fairy Horses do not work. They fixed that though in the update now.

  3. Brielle says:

It doesent work for me help

    • LittleDinamit says:

Please give more details like what version you’re using and what you’re feeding the horses.

  7. stormtornado10 says:

I cant get any tier threes I’ve tried breeding all my tier 2’s with each other and ones that look alike but I don’t get a single tier

  8. pupquake4231 says:

I play in creative and I’m in 1.7.2. I can only spawn the Tier 2 horses. Please help me as I am confused. I also can’t use mod options for some reason.

    • dangerlove says:

u can use the black and white vanilla horse, any horse from vanilla. but give only the mo creatures horse a pumkin, the vanilla horse nothing. u have to try some times, will u get the level 3 horse that u want.

  9. Azurebreeze says:

So I was playing 1.7.2, and I couldn’t find the PLAIN Black horses OR The Plain white horses….is there like a breeding code for them?

  10. Pinkjedi44 says:

I can’t get the teir two grey horse! Also the teir one horses aren’t spawning!

    • LittleDinamit says:

It’s possible the breeding guide is outdated now. In regards to the spawning problem, Mo’ Creatures spawning bugs out a lot, there’s no way to deal with it except to just install the latest version.

  11. fanny says:

how do u tame zebras or make them? PLEASE tell me

    • LittleDinamit says:

In Mo’ Creatures, Zebras count under Horses, so their taming method is the same: put a (crafted) saddle on them, then feed them sugar lumps or apples until the hearts pop up.

    • EleanorB20752 says:

You ride a tier 4 horse, give them an apple, and yay!

  12. Azurebreeze says:

Hello, I play 1.7.2 and was wondering 2 things

    1. I’ve been told I can use vanilla horses to breed with the mo’ creatures horses, and was wondering if it was true, since no PLAIN Black horses OR PLAIN White horses spawn (the mo creatures kind)

    2. How do I tame the zebras??? Do I need a plain white or black mo creatures horse?

If you know the problems and can answer them, thank you SOO much.

    • LittleDinamit says:

      1. I have personally not heard of this. Admittedly I haven’t used Mo’ Creatures in a while, but last I heard Mo’ Creatures and vanilla horses are completely separate. If Mo’ Creatures horses aren’t spawning, check your settings to make sure Mo’ Creatures is working properly.
      2. In Mo’ Creatures, Zebras count under Horses, so their taming method is the same: put a (crafted) saddle on them, then feed them sugar lumps or apples until the hearts pop up.

      • Azurebreeze says:

So for taming the zebras…do I have to be riding a horse or..?

        • LittleDinamit says:

I’m pretty sure that rule no longer applies, but like I said, I haven’t played Mo’ Creatures in a while so I could be wrong. Try without a horse, and if it fails, try again with a horse.

    • EleanorB20752 says:

      1. Yes, this is true. You need plain black/white vanilla horses
      2. I don’t know, but I rode one. Breed one just in case you still do!

  13. Kalibunny says:

I’m playing on 1.7.10 and I’ve downloaded the mo creatures, forge, and custom mob spawner for 1.7.10. But I just can’t get the horses tame with an apple! I can’t even use pumpkins, stew, or cake to breed the horses. I’ve seen others do it soo easily but I don’t get it. Am I doing something wrong?

    • LittleDinamit says:

You need to put a saddle on it and break it. Breaking a horse is easier if you feed it, but feeding it does not replace the breaking process. Just keep trying to ride it and it will break eventually. This is a new mechanic in the mod that I assume was put in recently because it was not there when I wrote the guide.

  14. Taesen says:

    2 problems (For 1.7.10):
    1. I’m trying for a Fairy Horse but I can’t seem to get a plain black horse(Mo’ creatures Version). I heard you can’t spawn one or find one, so is there a way to breed them?

    2. I’ve heard rumors that you must ride a black and white cow horse to tame a Zebra, is it true? And if no, any ways to tame them besides the normal way?

    • LittleDinamit says:

      1. It should spawn normally in the world. I don’t know why you’re having problems. :/
      2. Haha, these rumors get more wild every week. No, you don’t need to ride a black and white cow horse to tame a Zebra. You can just tame them the normal way.

    • EleanorB20752 says:

The black and white cow horse is a tier 4 horse, and you need a tier 4 horse to tame a zebra. The other tier 4 horse is the dalmatian looking one.

  15. Myth says:

Hello! i use minecraft version 1.7.10. Downloaded mo creatures and such.

im very confused, i dont know who are the Mo Creatures horses and what horse its from minecraft, theres any difference?

    • LittleDinamit says:

It’s very confusing, but the vanilla horses have a different taming procedure. If the horse doesn’t respond to the stuff in this guide, it must be a vanilla one.

  16. thegriffin88 says:

You expect me to reference a 200×200 pixel image. That’s f*****g hilarious.

  17. AG says:

I don’t understand how to get tier 3 horses! I have bred all of my tier 2 horses and haven’t gotten one.

    • EleanorB20752 says:

      Use this link: http://mocreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Horses
and look at the breeding chart there. If you can’t seem to find it, use this step by step guide:
      1. Breed a brown star horse and a (vanilla) white horse to get a grey and white spotted horse.
      2. Use this grey and white spotted horse with a reddish brown (maybe vanilla?) horse to get a red and white horse. This is the only tier 3 horse in this version.
      3. This goes beyond your question, but you will probably ask later for a tier 4 horse. Breed the one you got in step 3 with a (vanilla) black horse. You should get a black and white horse.
      5. Ride your tier 4 horse to a zebra and tame like any wild horse (except you should stay on your mont’s back!!!)
      Hope all this helped!!! 😀

  18. me says:

My tier 1 horses breed but give me another tier 1,not 2????

  19. COOLMINECRAFT says:

    cool i need a spotted horse though………..

Got something to say? Go for it!
